As you may know, SPARROW is the only women's archives that is collecting print, visual and oral history material on women's history and experience. It was set up as a trust in 1988 and has since then been doing pioneering work in this field to generate and disseminate knowledge about women's life and history in innovative ways. SPARROW now has a building of its own and is working towards stabilizing itself financially to continue its work of documenting women's life and history.

We are planning a series of efforts to raise a modest corpus of 5 crores. Currently, as a first step in this series, we are working to raise a sum of Rs. 25, 00, 000 for the SPARROW  corpus fund  so that SPARROW can free itself of financial constraints and  expand  the scope of its work. Towards this, Anupa Mehta of ArtWorks has conceived of an art raffle of artists’ books and paintings entitled Songs of Sorrow, Songs of Joy. Verve and The Bhau Daji Lad Museum are lending their support to this project as Media and Ad and Venue partners.

Intimate art works — water colours and artists’ books — have been donated by nearly 50 women artists for the cause. Raffle tickets are priced at Rs.25, 000. A ticket could win you a painting by an eminent artist and the ticket amount would be treated as a donation.

Your support for this virtual movement for women by women will be greatly appreciated by us.

There are 91 exhibits donated by 52 women artists which are going to be raffled on March 8, 2010. If you would like to purchase a charity art raffle ticket to support the cause of raising a corpus fund for SPARROW, choose any number from 1 to 91 and give us an alternative number just in case and write to sparrow.raffleforart@gmail.com or call 91-22-2828 0895, 91-22-2896 5019, 91-22-3040 0166 and 91-22-2631 6911 for more details.

Giving below is the list of artists who have so far graciously agreed to support us and stand by us. Purchase of one raffle ticket will not only win you a painting but will also make you a Lifetime Friend of SPARROW. Your donation will be acknowledged on our website and annual reports and our future newsletters will be sent to you free of charge. We look forward to your being a Lifetime Friend of SPARROW; a friend on whom SPARROW can depend now and in future.
